How does an X-ray grid improve image quality in radiography?

An X-ray grid improves image quality in radiography by reducing scatter radiation, thereby enhancing contrast and sharpness in the resulting image. Scatter radiation occurs when X-rays interact with tissues and scatter in various directions before reaching the image receptor. This scattered radiation can degrade image quality by reducing contrast and increasing background noise. X-ray grids consist of lead strips interleaved with radiolucent material, aligned to allow primary X-rays to pass through while absorbing scattered photons. As the primary X-rays pass through the patient, the grid absorbs a significant portion of scattered radiation before it reaches the image receptor, effectively reducing scatter-induced image degradation. Consequently, the image produced with an X-ray grid exhibits improved contrast, clarity, and diagnostic accuracy, particularly in areas of the body with higher tissue density or when using higher X-ray energies. We are a manufacturer of X-ray machines and their accessories.
